Jim Mahfood

Jim Mahfood aka Food One is an illustrator/comic book artist/muralist/live art rocker residing in LA. He is the creator of the art style known as Visual Funk: a hybrid mix of comix art, graffiti, manga, street art, and funk culture. Jim single-handedly introduced Live Art to the American comic book scene. Projects include illustrating Kevin Smith's Clerks comics, his own Grrl Scouts books, several Spider-Man books for Marvel, (and tons of other comics), the ad campaign for Colt 45 in 2007-08, the murals in the Sarah Silverman Program, his ongoing artbook series, Mixtape, the Kick Drum Comix mini-series and more. Jim has worked for every major comic book publisher and contributed art and comix to such magazines as Playboy, URB, BPM, Heavy Metal, Spin, Mad Magazine and more.

New projects include art in the upcoming video game Need For Speed Nitro, an animation development deal with Disney, all the art for rapper MF Grimm's new LP, and a new Spider-Man project for Marvel.

Exhibition History

Mahfood has exhibited his art for the last thirteen years in galleries all over, from St.Louis to NY to LA to London to France, Arizona, Canada, and beyond.
